Archivation

In a world where film archivists, historians, museums and information scientists research the practice of ARCHIVING, what can a media designer bring to the table?

M4 Week 6 Class Notes

PRESENT:
-Last week I submitted a poster proposal for SAA’s conference.
on new modes of interactive access for users and play.
really like my concept “twinkie archives”

-So I went ahead and archived my findings.
Instead of poster I wanted artifacts.
Using the twinkie metaphor as medium for my message.

-I did another study of my DJ Hall of Fame Idea to see what it would feel like.
Demo

-I want to do a human centered research project in the next few weeks at KCRW and the Huntington.
Proposal.

Moving forward I want to keep pushing my research into play more.
Further research and experiments will inform ways to interact with an extension of original, digitized or migrated archives. This idea also expands the digital archive beyond the computer screen, and takes it into tangible and physical spaces, thereby opening up many new kinds of interactions.

CLASS NOTES:
By the end of the term I should have
-great analysis & reflection of readings, making, thinking
-as many projects as I can fit in
-TONS of sets of made things

Need to be ready, take risks now to get going later in M5 & M6

Look more into vinyl records issues, re-issues, reproduction again.

Right now i’m an outsider looking in at archiving and archives.
But I need to use one.
I need to immerse myself.
Maybe practice archiving for my thesis and blog—I should archive my process.

Does ACCD archives use a database? how, what tech is used?
How are they tagging it?

Since archives don’t allow food in them, what if you could access an archive while eating?
Can a restaurant be inspired by an archive?
I have been wondering if an archive can inspire a space with which can use to access content.

Public (Huntington) vs Private (KCRW)

FUNCTION vs SIGNIFICANCE
